Most people that know me know I love to make bread.  For me, kneading dough is a meditation; I don’t understand the benefit of “no-knead” bread, I’ve got to feel the dough in my hands.

My good friend at Pat’s Backcountry Beverages gave me about 15lbs of spent grain to play with.  Pat is always brewing up some kind of beverage to concentrate for his next outdoor adventure, with his products you can go lightly into the wilderness and still enjoy fresh beer or soda - making more space for a good hearty loaf from Fireweed Station!

Spent grain has plenty of nutritional value left after the beer brewing process, and we all could use more fiber in our diet.  My kind of bread has chewy nubs of grain and a high whole wheat factor, some flax seeds, no dairy and of course my home made bread never has any preservatives.  There’s usually some jam floating around the kitchen (low sugar of course) maybe some nut butter and a banana, avocado and tomato, all great for sandwiches out on the trail.  Now all you need in your pack is one of Pat’s carbonators and some of his beer concentrate!
