Highlights of 2010 -
OK, I’ll admit this blog was probably not the highlight of the year - more like a dim glow in the back of my mind. I am surprised and flattered by comments from friends who actually felt the void : ) I usually thought about writing the blog when I was up to my elbows in garden soil, or dusting the kitchen with flour; not the best for the health of the computer… So here we are again; deep, dark winter with time to reflect, and cravings for images of sunshine and flowers…
Only the most pleasant guests stayed at Fireweed Station this year - lucky us! Word of mouth advertising has spread far and wide, treating us to friends and family of previous guests. Tom had a pleasant surprise when a climber staying here with his son, turned out to be an old school pal from his 1968 Oklahoma days!
We were also thrilled to read so many positive reviews of our place on our newly-created page on Trip Advisor. We’ve enjoyed using trip advisor for our own travels, so it was only natural to set it up for Fireweed Station - what a great tool! Thanks to everyone for candid, honest reviews. Seems like the rotten weather didn’t stop anyone having a good time… In between rainstorms we hosted a couple of beautiful weddings, including Tom’s daughter’s marriage to a lovely Irishman. Airon kept the lawns looking their best, I grew all the flowers (organically, from seed) in my new garden spot, Tom created culinary masterpieces from local resources.
We took a road trip south for a few months break; a blast of hot sunshine felt good on our pale faces. We returned to the snow, freshly freckled, for a lively Thanksgiving group; the back driveway proved to be the best sledding hill around to work off those turkey calories.
The ski trails are in after more than a few work days, the wind has been unkind to the old-growth Spruce, hurling many trees across the trail. At least we got a couple of Christmas trees and firewood for our trouble. Tom froze one tree trunk in a base of ice, led lights frozen in the stand, a welcome sight as you come out of the wooded trails and up the last hill to the Inn.
We’re cozy & warm, content to curl up by the fire, watch the snow fall and remember when the sun shined for us in 2010.
Best wishes for another good year ahead….
