Bocce Action

The lawn still has a few more Bocce days left this summer.  The game was wildly popular in Talkeetna a few years ago, they even had a tournament one summer.  We play “Alaskan Rules” Bocce here:  There’s no court, just throw the pallino (currently a white rock until Blue decides to reveal the official white ball’s hiding place) anywhere you choose.

There are many traditions surrounding the game - It is said that maybe Greeks, & Romans invented an early form of bocce, suggesting their soldiers played with rocks to pass time in-between battles.  So maybe Blue is just trying to be a purist…  I even learned of a French girl in the 1860’s, who would expose her backside to the losers of the match, the losers would then be obliged to kiss it in defeat, was her name really “Fanny”?

We find that a beer in one hand helps one’s aim and makes for a more creative game - I like to throw the pallino so it nests into tree roots, Airon always throws as far as he can.  There’s bumps, holes and slopes to conside in the lawn, and if the grass is too long the white ball can totally disappear. 

Tom’s ahead in the games so far but I’m sure he would try to lose more often if he got to kiss a French girl’s bare bum.
